Two Positive Performances

Outlaws Open the Season With Two Positive Performances Against Atlanta Old White RUFC
With the Matrix Season just around the corner, both the Div.2 and Div.3 squads traveled the 300 plus miles to play a friendly against conference rival Atlanta Old White. On a very narrow converted football field the Div. 2 side played a thoroughly entertaining game against a well matched Atlanta side. This competitive match saw the lead change hands more than 8 times. The Outlaws ran out to a 14 point early lead only to go in at the half down by 2 points. With the game in its last seconds the Outlaws could not turn its superior field/possession advantage into points, with Atlanta running out eventual victors 31 points to 24. The perfect warm up game both sides needed in preparation for this weekends Matrix play.

Spirits were indeed lifted by the outstanding performance by the Div 3 team. The O3 team beat Atlanta by the impressive score of 55-0. An all round solid performance with a few guys making their debuts for the Outlaws and to the game of rugby. They didn't miss a beat, with some wonderful tries coming from all parts of the field

Outlaws open Matrix play this upcoming weekend - Both sides are on the road
Div. 2 - Away to Fort Bragg
Div. 3 - Away to Golden Isles

Two Hard Earned Victories for the Outlaws

Outlaws 12 Raleigh Vipers 6 (Div: 2)

Outlaws 29 Hilton Head 19 (Div: 3 Matrix Game)

There is nothing like two of hard fought wins to bring the club together. As coaches we talked all week about getting the wins! While winning was important, performance was paramount. Before the games we discussed attitude but attitude can only be measured in actions, not words. Our actions demonstrated our attitude, we were focused and united and deserved the results. For Div: 2 it was a chance to compete at the top level and Div1 Raleigh provided the strong competition we needed. For Div3, a 'win' was a chance to get back into contention in what is proving to be a very competitive division. Not only was victory assured with a brand of open attacking rugby, but many new faces in the pack stood up to the challenge of a very heavy Hilton Head pack. A pack who simply could not stop the forward momentum of the Outlaws tight 5.

Our hats are off to both teams who traveled well and put on a great display of rugby.

Next up Cape Fear and Savannah.

Home Match Saturday!

This Saturday's matrix match will pit the Charleston Outlaws against the Golden Isles RFC. This should be a great matchup as Charleston looks to avenge the loss to GI in Brunswick GA. The winner of this match will be firmly in the drivers seat for the only playoff spot for the matrix. This match is sure to be a classic.

Kick off is at 1PM on Daniel's Island on the Battery's practice pitch (directions). See you there!

Outlaws lose a tough one with the last kick of the game 13-12. We eagerly look forward to the return game in a few weeks which provides us with an opportunity to put right what was in all honesty our worst performance in over 5 years of playing Columbia!

The Outlaw spirit was very much in evidence as the team gutted out a victory against a very big and heavier Greenville pack. The game was won in the last 20 minutes where superior fitness proved to be the decisive factor

Mixed Results

For The Outlaws But Rugby Was the Winner!

DIV 2 Matrix: Outlaws 39 - Ft. Bragg 0
DIV 3 Matrix: Hilton Head 19 - Outlaws 15

Congratulations to everyone who put on the Outlaws jersey this past Saturday.

Being a witness to the DIV 2 excellent performance and receiving same reports from the DIV 3 game in their away game to Hilton Head, I think it is fair to say that not only did rugby win the day but that the Outlaw name and tradition of this club was once again held in high regard. While we did not get the two wins we wanted on Saturday and I know there was, and still is great disappointment that DIV 3 did not get to the playoffs - we still have much to be proud of and much to play for before the Spring season is officially done.

To everyone who has supported the DIV 3 team in what is it's inaugural year, I say a HUGE congratulations to both players, coaches and supporters. The club is much stronger for having 2 teams play in 2 divisions - representing ONE club every Saturday as the Charleston Outlaws.

DIV 2 are still in the hunt for a play-off spot and DIV 3 still has two games to play so keep coming back to the site for game updates.

If there was ever a time when your Charleston Outlaws needed your support, it is for this coming Saturday as the Outlaws battle Columbia at home (Charleston Battery practice fields - Daniel Island 1PM KO). What's at stake? A win for either the Outlaws or Columbia will secure for the winning team the matrix championship and a home game against Orlando a week on Saturday in the Quarter Finals of the Southern Championship - the loosing team having to travel to Naples to play on the same weekend.

After playing horribly and losing to Columbia by a single point, in Columbia, the Outlaws knew that in order to achieve the goal set at the beginning of the season of winning the matrix and securing home field advantage they had to win their next 4 games. With a 45-32 road win last week against Cape Fear, completing 3 wins out of 3, it all comes down to this Saturday's 'winner takes all' championship decider.

At 3PM the Division 3 squad will take the pitch for their final home match of the season. The DIV3 side will be looking to get back into the WIN column after a very tough road loss to Hilton Head.

So, be there Saturday afternoon for two great rugby matches. Remember to leave early to avoid the Tennis traffic. Great rugby - This should be a cracker!

Saturday April 14th - Charleston Battery Soccer Practice Field, Daniel Island at 12:30 PM

Outlaws play Orlando in the Quarter Finals of the Southern Championships

Your Charleston Outlaws beat Columbia this past Saturday by a score of 32-15 to be crowned champions of their matrix division. The win secured a home game this coming Saturday against Orlando. What's at stake? A semi final match in the Southern Championships to be played in Little Rock Arkansas in 2 weeks. Without question, this is the biggest game of the season for the Outlaws and your support at the game would be truly appreciated. Orlando will arrive in town with a pretty impressive 11-1 record and therefore will be traveling with confidence. However, the Outlaws have put together an impressive 4 game winning streak and are yet to be beaten at home this Spring - it should be a CRACKER! See you Saturday!

Attention Outlaw Fans Worldwide!

Attention Outlaw Fans worldwide!

A huge thanks to our fans and sponsors, for all the support for the Club in our pursuit of the National Title. It was such a great feeling to see the responses this past weekend as fans watched our match from all points on the globe, it is so nice to know that we have such a huge supporting fan base, and we are glad you are along for the journey!

As you know by now, The Outlaws will be traveling to Pittsburgh, PA, next weekend, May 11-13 to face Wilmington RFC, in the Sweet 16. There are three great ways that fans can support the Club in this upcoming venture.

The first, is you can be a part of it! YES!, All fans are welcome to join the team on the trip up to Pittsburgh. We depart Friday, May 11, from Joe Riley Stadium downtown, you can leave your cars in the safe parking lot. We will have a very nice Tour Bus with TV, DVD, Bathroom, etc. to travel up to Pennsylvania. There will be team dinners and activities in the Pittsburgh area. There will be one match on Saturday at 1:30 PM, and another on Sunday- time to be determined. Then we head back to Charleston Sunday afternoon in true Outlaw Fashion- you won’t want to miss it! The cost is $100 for the bus, plus the cost of the hotel (this depends if you are splitting a room)- Hotel rooms can be booked as part of the Pittsburgh Harlequins Rugby Block- Contact Comfort Inn & Suites Marrianne Larkin 412-963-0600 for the discounted rate. We have between 15-20 seats left on the bus- so it will be first-come, first reserved, for those slots.

The Second way to support is to watch the game via live video stream at The Brick, located at 213 East Bay Street, Downtown Charleston. It was a great crowd that cheered us on against Little Rock, and we’d love to have the same support again. There will be some food and drink specials, and we will “pass-the-hat” for Donations to help support the trip.
The final way is to make a donation to the club, in any amount you feel comfortable (no amount is too small- we appreciate it all!.) Our Corporate sponsors The Brick, TXN Intermodal, Cambria Sports, and Guinness, provide the lion’s share of financial support for our regular in-season costs. The remainder of our costs are covered from Player’s membership dues, and other fund-raising. We are an amateur club, and when it comes to playoff time, the funds are limited. If you feel compelled to contribute, please do what you can. Most donations are tax-deductible (check with your accountant) as we are a Non-Profit organization (Our tax ID # can be provided for those interested). You can send a donation to Charleston Rugby, 3226 Morningdale Drive, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466, OR follow the PayPal link on our web site and please write “NATIONALS” in the memo line. You will get a South Tournament or National Tournament T-shirt with any donation of $100.00 or more. Official Team Jersey for donations of $250, and other great sponsorship packages are available for larger donations.
Again, we cannot thank our fans and sponsors enough. For those who have been fortunate to be a part of the club, or to feel the excitement at one of our matches, you know what it is all about. Please do what you can to support and cheer on the OUTLAWS next weekend in the quest for the National Championship!

Outlaw Nation

For those of us who are unable to make the trip to Pittsburgh to support our team first hand, there is an alternative. We will cheer the Outlaws to victory from The Brick, 213 East Bay Street, Downtown Charleston this Saturday at 1:30. Their big screen TV will be set up for the game and we can support our team together. Thank you to the guys who are taking the equipment and filming so we can watch the Outlaws in action. There will be some food and drink specials and we will 'pass-the-hat' for donations to help support the trip.

See you Saturday!
